Vineyards and Wine

In an average year, approximately 120 million liters of wine, produced on 9,000 farms totaling to an area of grape production of 13,000 ha, is pressed in Switzerland; just over 50 % being white wine. In order to cultivate vine, Swiss farmers have to get approval from the state regarding place of cultivation and vine variety and are not allowed to harvest more than a certain amount of grapes per meter square.
